3 Crucial Post-Workout Steps.

10460525_363081657210169_8583922942853810972_n (1)So you’ve finished your workout and like myself you’re a sweaty monster and all you want to do is sit and never move again. There are three things you need to do before hand, they’re all super simple but it’s surprising how many people skip them.

1. Stretch. If you don’t want to spend time out of the game because your muscles aren’t on your team  or even injured you need to take 5-10 minutes after working out to stretch them out. It is recommended that you do 5 minutes of stretches and then 5 minutes releasing any tension and knots with a foam roller. AfIf you’re struggling with knowing what to do for these stretches or unsure on how to use a foam roller typing the question into Google will give you literally thousands of results an different activities you can do to help you and your muscles happy.

2. Get Out of Your Workout Clothes. It is so, so easy to get back from your workout, sit on the couch and then before you know it three hours have passed and you’re still sat in your workout gear. Even if you don’t have time to shower, which is still very recommended, at least get out of your workout clothes. Staying in them promotes acne on your back, yeast infections for us woman (nice), and other unhygienic related problems.

3. Eat. After working out your body needs to replenish itself of the lowered levels of fluids, glycogen and electrolytes. It also plays a massive factor in helping your muscles repair and grow. You should eat as soon as you can for it to have the optimum affect, it is also super easy to be tempted with a slice of cake or a biscuit (or five) after a workout to ‘reward’ yourself but it doesn’t actually mean you can get away with it, unfortunately. Try find something protein based!

I don’t think she’ll ever grow out of sitting on my knee like this. It was fine when she was a puppy but now whenever i’m sat on the floor she HAS to be sat on my knee. My poor legs, you’re not a Chihuahua poppy-dog!!

I have a very yo-yo relationship with running, as most of you know. When it comes to weight training at the gym i’m all over that like i would be all over a big chocolate cake, and that shit’s intense. But when it comes to running i find it hard to get motivated, i haven’t been able to take poppy because she’s still quite young and i didn’t want to damage her little growing bones. But finally she’s fully grown so now was time to try it! I must say, I’ve never had so much fun on a run! I popped her harness and her lead on and off we went, it was great. She would go ahead of me and when i was feeling like i was hitting a brick wall and couldn’t go on, a simple ‘come on girl’ to pops and she would go faster and almost pull me past the blockage. To passers by i must of looked absolutely off my head, smiling whilst running, WHAT IS ALL THAT ABOUT?! I just couldn’t help it, the frequent turns of her head with her tongue sticking out staring back at me to make sure i was still there was so cute. She’s such a lovely dog. Now however, she’s on the sofa next to me looking absolutely horrified about what has just happened! Oh if only she knew it was happening all again tomorrow! If you need that little bit of motivation and you have a dog who’s able to run, take them! Honestly the best thing Ive done, can see it being a game changer.

Have a great Monday guys!

4 Top Tips For Sticking At Fitness.

I did it, I finally did it, I got myself back in the gym today! I used to go with my fiancé but he does this absolutely awful thing where when he finally gets looking amazing and can find it like second nature, he quits, logic?! You can imagine how I felt when he quit because I was also at the stage where I was starting to reap the benefits. When he suggested we went again I said no for a long time, the thought of feeling good about myself to have it taken away was awful, (Because with the weights I do I need to be spotted so can’t go by myself) but finally I gave in and I must say, I feel great for it. It’s only been one session and I’m already rekindling my love for the aches afterwards and the satisfaction that comes with it. It is super hard to get yourself up and out though if it’s new to you or you’ve had a long break, but there are many things that can help that motivation soar!

Buy some new gym gear.

There’s nothing worse than going to the gym or going for a jog and feeling self conscious before you’ve even stepped out the house. Invest in some workout clothes that make you feel amazing, that way you’re more likely to get yourself out there. Let’s be honest, it’s quite scary going for a jog and knowing people are going to be looking at you, when you’re probably not looking your best. But at least you’ll feel it even after you’ve got all sweaty. Something so simply I’ve found can make such a difference. Now if only I could make my face refrain from going bright red and pulling all kinds of offensive faces?! We can’t have everything eh!

Get A Workout Partner.

We all have those down days, where we would much rather do anything than get out there and do some exercise. Having someone join you and do the journey together makes it so much more enjoyable. Whether it be your partner, your friend or a member of the family, having someone to encourage you on days when you’re not feeling up to it and you encouraging them on days that they’re not up to it is just that little push you need sometimes. It has been known to make couples stronger and friendships bloom as you’re both going on a journey together, helping each other and both feeling great. My fiancé happily goes to the gym to me, but he won’t go on a jog with me, it’s just not his thing. So why not take your pooch? I know my dog loves it and when you’re feeling worn out they can basically drag you home, brilliant haha!

You don’t have to do everything at once.

Personally it’s the diet side of things that I fail at, and badly. If you suddenly cut out everything you’re likely to indulge often and not reap the benefits of the other hard work you’re putting in. Start off by just exercise or just a diet to begin with then gently work the other one in. But when it comes to a diet don’t cut out everything you love. There are still healthy ways to have that sweet treat you need, yes I said need, with me it is a NEED not a want. A bad meal now and again also isn’t going to revert all the hard work you’ve done, so if you have a one, sod it. Don’t let it then put you off because you feel like it was all for nothing, pick yourself up and carry on.

Don’t expect results overnight.

We don’t put weight on overnight, although it bloody feels like it sometimes, so don’t expect to become the next Dwayne Johnson over night either. (Oh I love that man, so much, maybe too much? No it can never be too much. Mmm I of course had to have a picture of him on here somewhere, it’s only fair for our eyes) I am guilty of being impatient when it comes to results showing. I want it to happen there and then, do a gym session and I’m searching for my six pack wondering where I went wrong?! In reality it takes a lot longer, 12 weeks on average for results to be seen. sadface.

Green Tea.

Green tea is definitely one of those tastes that you either love or loathe. To be fair there’s not much taste to it, but yet it used to be able to turn my stomach. Once I found out the benefits of green tea however I started coming round to the idea of drinking what I once called ‘the blood of satan’ ( yes, I hated it that much). Now that my taste buds have become accustomed to the taste of green tea I must say, I don’t mind it at all. The benefits seem endless, there’s nothing I can say to justify not at least trying green tea with how great it is!

  • Fat burning
  • Improves physical performance
  • Is said to help lower risks of Cancer, Parkinson’s & Alzheimer’s
  • Improve the appearance of your skin
  • Help prevent heart attacks
  • Fuels the brain

They are the benefits that speak out the most to me, there are loads others and although none of them are concrete there is plenty of evidence pointing towards them being true. All hail the green tea.
